The Borough of Madison is a small, suburban community with a population of approximately 16,000. Located about 15 miles due west of New York City, it is easily accessible via Routes 287, 24, and 78. In addition, New Jersey Transits Midtown Direct provides a quick, relaxing ride into New York Penn Station and eliminates the need to transfer at Hoboken. The area is also serviced by Lakeland Bus Lines and for local routes, by Morris County Metro Bus. Home to Drew University, Fairleigh Dickinson University and the College of St. Elizabeth, Madison is known as a community with strong educational, cultural and historical amenities. In addition, the Free Public Library of the Borough of Madison is exceptional for a community of Madisons size and is widely regarded as one of the finest small community public libraries in New Jersey. Recreation opportunities abound and the Madison Recreation Department provides a variety of activities, special events, and athletics for a wide-range of ages. Its Parks Department maintains all of the many parks, playgrounds and athletic fields including six lighted tennis courts, baseball and softball fields, nature/fitness trails, picnic areas, a lighted outside ice skating area, lighted soccer field and three basketball courts. |
