The Town of Morristown, located thirty miles west of New York City in the heart of Morris County, is one of the most historically significant locations in New Jersey. Not only did Morristown play a prominent role in the Revolutionary War—George Washington slept here twice—the town housed more millionaires than any other city during the Gilded Age and, among other things, was the birthplace of the telegraph, the steamship engine and the modern-day version of Santa Claus.

Just 2.8 square miles, present-day Morristown is home to approximately 18,500 people, however, as it plays host to numerous Fortune 500 companies and other smaller businesses, its daytime population swells to more than three times that. From the smallest shops along South Street to the medium-sized firms on the Green to the largest corporations on Madison Avenue, Morristown is home to literally hundreds of businesses.

Residents of Morristown enjoy its quaint and historic downtown shopping district, its fine specialty stores and boutiques, its churches, parks, historic sites…Add to that world-class entertainment at venues such as the Community Theatre and with nearly one hundred restaurants serving every type of cuisine imaginable, it’s easy to understand why so many people decide to make their home in this great town.

Morristown is easily accessible via Routes 287, 202, 24, 80 and 78. In addition, New Jersey Transit’s Midtown Direct provides a quick, relaxing ride into New York Penn Station and eliminates the need to transfer at Hoboken. The area is also serviced by Lakeland Bus Lines and for local routes, Morris County Metro Bus.

Located directly across the street from the apartments is Kings Supermarket, a drug store, a dry cleaners, a video rental store and a popular restaurant…venture a little further and you’ll be in the center of Morristown’s downtown shopping district. Better known as the “Green,” it defines the town’s character and is surrounded on all four sides by numerous historically significant structures which house everything from a Chinese restaurant to a branch of the U.S. Postal Service. In fact, having almost everything you need within walking distance, in conjunction with mass transit being so readily available means owning a car becomes an option rather than a necessity.

Less than a block away, the town-sponsored Senior Center, in conjunction with the Morristown 60-Plus Club, offers a plethora of activities, trips, educational programs, discussion groups…and Morristown offers its older residents regularly scheduled transportation to shopping and doctors.

Morristown may be small in size but it’s big on recreation. Offering everything from tennis courts, basketball courts, baseball fields, soccer fields, playgrounds, picnic areas and a municipal pool, its Division of Recreation has seen to it that residents have all sorts of outdoor activities to choose from.

There are over a dozen private golf courses throughout Morris County as well as three high-caliber public courses operated by the Morris County Park Commission. One of these, Pinch Brook Golf Course—18 holes, par 65—is located just minutes away in Florham Park.

In addition to golf, the Morris County Park System has over 13,500 acres of parkland and a multitude of recreational facilities as well as historic and cultural sites. You can take a stroll through Frelinghuysen Arboretum...hike along Patriot’s Path...go cross-country skiing at Loantaka Brook Park…learn to ice skate at Mennen Arena…ride a horse at Seaton Hackney Stables…attend an outdoor concert in a natural amphitheater at Schooley’s Mountain…even go boating on the largest freshwater lake in the state. As one of the wealthiest counties in the United States, Morris County has made a hefty investment in making this area a great place to live and its residents continue to reap the benefits.

Schools in and around Morristown, from elementary through college, consistently receive high marks. The Morris School District is a first-rate public school system and is nicely augmented by seven private schools in the immediate area as well as one charter school. For higher education, opportunities run the gamut from the two-year County College of Morris to nearby prestigious Drew University.
